Add Reminders alternative: reminders from dates in a sheet
Checked October 25, 2026. We make Calendar Autopilot, so read this knowing that. Every fact about Add Reminders below comes from its Marketplace listing on that date, and you can check each one there.
Add Reminders, by Romain Vialard, emails you before or after the dates in a Google Sheets™ column: bills, renewals, papers due. It's free and has more than 2 million users. Calendar Autopilot gets you reminded a different way, by putting each date on your Google Calendar™. Here is how the two compare.
Two ways to get reminded
- Add Reminders sends an email. You pick a date column and how long before or after, such as 3 days before. Each row can name who gets the email. It doesn't put anything on a calendar.
- Calendar Autopilot puts the date on your calendar. Each row becomes a Google Calendar™ event, and Google Calendar™ reminds you the way your calendar is set to: a phone notification, a pop-up or an email. Guests you list in the row are added to the event (we don't email them an invitation). Change the date in the sheet and the event moves with it.
Choose Add Reminders if you need…
- Something free, with no calendar involved. Add Reminders has no paid plan.
- Emails to different people per row, read from an email column, with the row's details in the email.
- Reminders after a date, such as "2 weeks after the invoice date."
Choose Calendar Autopilot if you need…
- Reminders that don't depend on the sheet being open. Once a date is on Google Calendar™, Google sends the reminder. Calendar Autopilot's automatic sync also runs with the sheet closed, and checks every hour.
- To know if something stops. If Calendar Autopilot's automatic sync goes quiet, we email you, so a new or changed date doesn't silently miss your calendar.
- To see the dates, not only be emailed about them: your sheet's deadlines sit on the same calendar as everything else.
Calendar Autopilot also has a Date reminders feature on the way, for emails like "7 days and 1 day before each date in column C," sent with the sheet closed. It isn't available yet, so we don't compare it here.
